IC-2 STATEMENT ON THE ROLES OF INTENSIVE CARE SPECIALISTS IN HOSPITALS 

Introduction

The Roles of Intensive Care Specialists in Hospitals provides an overview of the diverse responsibilities an intensive care specialist may undertake throughout their career. The statement highlights and promotes the various functions of intensivists within hospital settings and serves as a resource for multiple audiences. It assists hospital administrators and management in understanding the scope of an intensivist’s work, informs junior doctors considering a career in intensive care medicine about the nature of the specialty, and acts as an official reference for regulators assessing international medical graduates (IMGs). This document should be read alongside other College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (CICM) policies and regulations to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the professional roles and standards expected of intensive care specialists.
