The 2015 New Fellows Conference is being held at the exotic location of Byron Bay and if you didn’t think it could get any better, registration is free to all delegates!!

We are offering a diverse program which includes valuable information and advice covering topics such as hospital inspections and administration, dealing with a trainee in difficulty, being the only FCICM in the unit and other issues that new Fellows may face.

Delegates must be within 3 years of gaining Fellowship and spaces are strictly limited.

Communications Course - Melbourne
12 August 2015

This course is intended to provide CICM trainees with the skills required to communicate effectively with patients and families in the ICU setting.

The interactive course program has been designed to cover communication topics vital for your training, using professional actors in role play scenarios.  

Topics for this course include, conducting a family meeting, verbal skills, breaking bad and catastrophic news.
If you haven’t signed up already you will want to do so here.
Second Part and Second Part Paediatrics Exam
The closing date was Monday 13 July 2015. No further applications will be accepted.

First Part Exam
The closing date for the second sitting of the First Part exam is 5:00 PM (AEST) on Friday 31 July 2015. If you are interested in sitting the exam and/or have any queries please contact Frieda Keo.

Exam Workshop for Trainees
The next Exam Trainee Workshop for Trainees is scheduled for Tuesday 8 December 2015, and will be held in Sydney.

With the aid of College examiners and a guest speaker, this workshop is aimed at assisting candidates to prepare for the written component of all CICM examinations (First Part, Second Part, and Second Part Paediatric).

Only CICM trainees that have sat a CICM written exam at least once are eligible to attend the workshop. If you would like to attend and/or have any questions, please contact Frieda Keo before Friday 20 November 2015.

Critical Care Ultrasonography Special Interest Group
The College is now calling for any Fellow with an interest in ultrasonography who would like to be involved in this group to please contact Lisa Davidson, lisad@cicm.org.au.

Planning for an initial meeting is underway with the hope that it will occur in September.

Regional Committee News
The Victorian Regional Committee has recently elected new members for 2015-2017.
The College is pleased to announce the new Committee as follows:

The Committee will be holding a meeting within the next fortnight to discuss plans for the region for the remainder of the year, and moving into 2016 and 2017.

CICM Online Course Update
As part of the 2014 training program, the College has published a variety of online courses which can be accessed via the Education tab of the Members Portal.

These courses are mandatory for the Trainees on the 2014 program, and optional for all other Trainees and Fellows. We are excited to announce our most recent addition to the suite of online courses.

The ‘Focused Cardiac Ultrasound in Intensive Care’ website module and online quiz are now available.
CICM Events
Fellow Education Workshops

The College is running a series of educational workshops for CICM Supervisors and Fellows. The workshop includes trainee mapping exercises with a focus on individual trainee’s predicted training pathway for the next few years and to identify required non ICU rotations, and to assist Supervisors in giving realistic advice to trainees about their training plans. The day will also include a professional development session in the afternoon with simulation activities using professional actors. The regional committees will be asked to provide input on the content of these afternoon sessions.
The workshops provide an opportunity for networking and sharing of common education and training issues and potential solutions.

These workshops will be taking place in the following locations:
