Trainee Survey
An important message for trainees and Supervisors

Trainees who recently completed accredited training intensive care training will shortly receive an email requesting their participation in a survey about their most recent training position. In past surveys, specific details of the position were kept anonymous. However, this survey will ask trainees to identify the unit in which they have been working. All trainee responses will still be protected and feedback will not be passed onto the unit or individual Supervisors without in-depth analysis and consent from the trainee.

The aim of this survey is not to single out particular units but to support trainees and Supervisors in all teaching units.

Why we need to know? This information will enable the College to:
•    Continually analyse and develop the training program;
•    Assist with the assurance of the quality of our teaching units and Supervisors of Training;
•    Give recognition to effective educators and can assist with blue printing for other units.

If Fellows or trainees have any questions regarding the above, please feel free to contact the CICM Training Department - training@cicm.org.au or a local Trainee Committee Representative

A survey aimed at CICM Supervisors will also be distributed shortly.

Intensive Care Foundation Trainee Grants for 2015
The Intensive Care Foundation (ICF) will once again be funding Trainee Formal Project Grants in 2015.
This year the main Foundation Grant process will begin with an initial request for Expressions of Interest from Grant Applicants and we will incorporate Trainee Formal Project Grant Applicants into this process.
The EOI template will be available on the Foundation website www.intensivecarefoundation.org.au from Monday 2 March 2015 and the closing date for EOIs is Monday 23 March at 6pm (AEST).

The ICF is dedicated to improving the care of critically ill patients by raising funds for clinical research projects and the education of health professionals responsible for intensive care. The Foundation  has now awarded over $2.8 million in research grants, funding many projects which have been vital to helping save lives. Every year the Foundation seeks high quality research projects to fund.  All Foundation-funded research must be consistent with the National Health and Medical Research Council guidelines on research practice with the NHMRC guidelines of human and animal experimentation and the privacy act.
Medico-Legal Work
From time to time the College receives requests for specialist advice in legal matters and we maintain a database of Fellows who are interested in this kind of work.

If you would like your name included on this register please contact Lisa Davidson, lisad@cicm.org.au.
ILCOR Scientific Evidence Evaluation and Review System
The world's resuscitation experts were in Dallas, Texas from January 31 to Feburary 5, 2015 to discuss the latest research and draft recommendations on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency cardiovascular care (ECC).

Over 200 attendees representing member councils of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) helped in finalizing systematic evidence evaluations during the 2015 International Consensus Conference on CPR and ECC Science, in preparation for the Consensus on Science with Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR), scheduled for online publication in the medical journals Circulation and Resuscitation on October 15, 2015.  ILCOR's councils, including the American Heart Association and the European Resuscitation Council, will simultaneously publish CPR and ECC guidelines based in part on CoSTR.
ILCOR's seven task forces--Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS); Advanced Life Support (ALS); Basic Life Support (BLS); Education, Implementation and Teams (EIT); First Aid; Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP); and Pediatric Life Support (Peds)--were hard at work to gather consensus on the science and recommendations around a number of clinical and education questions.
ILCOR is still encouraging all stakeholders to provide feedback on 150 questions and reviews. Please click here to view the questions open for public comment. The public comment period will run until February 28, 2015.
