CICM Curriculum renewal continues, with CICM training changes starting in Feb 2024, with Phases of Training being an important shift.
In 2023, the re-classification of ‘rurality’ or ‘remoteness’ Intensive Care Units and increased time in Rural/Regional CICM training (in effect from 6 Feb 2023).
Ongoing discussion with stakeholders has resulted in the ANZICS Victoria ICU Directors’ meeting hearing from Postgraduate Council of Victoria (PMCV) and CICM. This meeting heard about PMCV’s mechanisms of mapping CICM training jobs in Victoria and developing a state-wide matching system for CICM roles in Victorian ICUs as a Victorian Intensive Care Training Pathway.
PMCV have track-record in other College programs of running this interface between available jobs and training positions: Allocation & Placement Service - PMCV
Currently CICM and PMCV have agreed to sharing current CICM registrar training data about 1st half 2023 Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 CICM registrar positions (as per 2024 definition) in the 23 training sites in Victoria (and Albury).
The next steps are to then further survey ICU departments about Phase 0 registrar roles, and then to commence discussion about how to design the Training Pathway mechanism later in the first half of 2023.
