Member Survey - The Choosing Wisely Campaign
The Choosing Wisely campaign began in 2012 as an initiative of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Following this beginning, similar initiatives developed in Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and now Australia. Choosing Wisely Australia is led by Australia's medical colleges and societies and facilitated by NPS MedicineWise. The goal of Choosing Wisely Australia is to start conversations between consumers and clinicians about unnecessary tests, interventions and procedures, enhancing the quality of care and, where appropriate, reducing unnecessary care.

In early 2015 the first group of Australian medical colleges to participate in the campaign launched their lists of five overused or unnecessary tests, interventions and procedures. These can be viewed at the Choosing Wisely website http://www.choosingwisely.org.au

CICM has agreed to be part of the second round of participating colleges, in conjunction with ANZICS, and a joint working party has been developing a short list of tests and procedures which will then be reduced to the final list of five through surveying all Fellows of CICM and Members of ANZICS. You will receive an email request to participate in this survey within the next few days.

Further information about the Choosing Wisely campaign is available on their website, or if you would like specific information about our College’s involvement, please contact Phil Hart at philh@cicm.org.au
