A Message From The Office
2015 saw the introduction of many new faces with 27 new Fellows being appointed as Supervisors of Training. As a part of further learning and training, the College also conducted Fellows Education Workshops in Australia and New Zealand. The workshops included a professional development session in the with simulation activities with actors as well as tips on delivering a giving feedback. The workshops were a great success and 2016 dates will be announced shortly.
The College also has many exciting things planned for all Supervisors in 2016. With new workshops being announced and new online resources being explored, the College looks forward to delivering more resources than ever to its Supervisors.
College Christmas Closure
The college will be closed from Friday 25 December and will be re-opening on Monday 4 January 2016.
Supervisor of Training Workshops
As a supervisor of training you are a vital part of the College’s training program. To develop and enhance your skills as supervisor, the College is running three "Supervisor of Training Workshops” in 2016.
The program will include sessions on feedback, remediation of the poorly performing trainee and time for discussion and questions from supervisors.

The workshops will be facilitated by Dr Bronwyn Avard (Director – Canberra Hospital) and A/Prof Bruce Lister (Director of Professional Affairs - Education, CICM).
The dates and locations are as follows;
- Thursday February 11th in Melbourne
- Thursday July 28th in Sydney
- Thursday October 27th in Adelaide
- New Zealand (dates to be confirmed)
If you are a supervisor who lives outside of one of the above regions, the College will provide a return economy airfare and a nights’ accommodation if required.

Please note that as a supervisor, it is expected you attend one of the workshops as this is an opportunity for you to not only learn new skills/techniques but also to network with supervisors from other regions. Fellows can also claim CPD points for these workshops.

Thank you to all Supervisors who participated in our most recent feedback survey. Of 154 Supervisors invited to participate, 83 responses were received. This was a total of 53.89% of the College’s appointed Supervisors of Training. Based on your responses, the following observations were made
As a part of the supervisor of training survey, all supervisors were asked if they were prepared to become a ‘Champion’ in their region for new supervisors who require advice/support.
Topics you may wish to approach a champion supervisor about might be: Trainee welfare, dealing with difficult conversations, time management, and overall general advice for a novice supervisor.
